once the squirrels learn how to overcome thus style of feeder they offer zero protection.
They simply hang from the roof and eat the food.
I extended the roof with some sheet metal.
Then they hung from the 'hinge' of the perch and reach up to get the food.
I covered the hinged with sheet metal,

Now they hang from the the support pivots and reach up and get he food.

Their abs must be really strong now.

Thanks for your comment!

I had the same problem with a pair of hiking boots I loved! Had them for almost 16 years and when they finally gave out, I wanted to buy the exact same pair. But I found online that they are now made in China instead of Italy and are not the same quality.

Thanks so much for sharing this.

I bought four of these. The quality is greatly compromised over the "same" model I purchased 5/6 years ago. It is NOT worth the money. Find another squirrel-proof birdfeeder rather than spending your money on this one. I was very disappointed.

thanks for opportunity to post this complaint.

I have had these feeders for several years and they work very well, however, I recently purchased one from Walmart and have had much trouble with it. The dowel that the feeder hangs from comes out of the holes and drops it on the ground. The plastic body is thinner than my older ones and has broken
and the seeds pour out of the bottom. I glued a piece of plexiglass on the hole and put it up. It just fell again ,but this time I used the dowel and hanger from an old one and put it back up. I would like to buy a new one but I'm afraid, since they are so poorly made.

I have two of these feeders (Original models) and they work great for squirrels. It only took two days before they gave up completely. You must make sure the feeder is far enough from a tree or post so they can't just reach a paw in. They also don't work well to keep out grackles and blackbirds. You have to make the bar so loose that it hangs down over the feeder, or won't let more than one bird of any type eat. The grackles and blackbirds also quickly learned to hop up and down to get the food. Really. They even chase each other off, because they have learned that more than one bird on it closes it.

I presently have one of these bird feeders , that has faded and started cracking (bought 5 years ago). I would like to replace it with a new one and would like info on where I could buy a new one or how I could aquire one . Even if it's warranted for Life , I just want to know where I can get a new one ,I really don't want a substitute , I've used this old one and Love it , Lowes appears to have quit stocking this particular feeder. If I can get this old one replaced by warranty Great ! If not I still would like a new one,I have the original box it came in...
Thank You,
M.T. Feagin
