Vari-Craft Birch Log Bird Feeder
The Vari-Craft line of bird feeders take a unique approach to squirrel-proofing. The don’t claim to be 100% squirrel-proof. However, they do carry a lifetime guarantee against squirrel damage. If a squirrel ever chews through or otherwise damages the feeder, they’ll replace it free.
Their bird feeders do have some squirrel-resistant features. Take the Birch Log Bird Feeder, for example.
As you can see by the picture above, it resembles a birch log. However, it is really squirrel-resistant plastic. Actually, it is heavy-wall PVC (1/4″ thick).
The roof and base are both made of aluminum, so they won’t rust. The lid fastens on with stainless steel clips, so squirrels won’t just pop it off and help themselves.

Big Top Squirrel Baffle
Some squirrel-proof bird feeders are combination seed feeders and built-in baffles. The Big Top bird feeder is one of these.
The feeding station is covered by a clear baffle overhang, which serves two purposes:
1. It keeps squirrels who climb down from the top of your bird feeder from reaching the bird seed.
2. It keeps larger birds out (they can’t navigate under the baffle.) The Big Top is made by Droll Yankee, the same people who make the Droll Yankee Flipper.
The dome is 15″ in diameter, which should be sufficient to foil the most determined squirrel.
